Agfa Graphics va al EXTREMO y lanza el sistema hibrido Jeti Tauro H3300LED en FESPA 2018

For Fespa 2018, Agfa Graphics makes a bold move with an immersive booth concept that uses virtual reality and interactive sensory experiences to introduce its next-generation inkjet printing solutions. The true stars of the Agfa Graphics booth will be a large array of printed samples that perfectly illustrate what print service providers can achieve with Agfa Graphics’ technology: Extreme Productivity. Extreme Quality. At the same time, Agfa Graphics launches its latest UV LED inkjet hybrid workhorse: the Jeti Tauro H3300 LED. This latest masterpiece of Agfa engineering embodies the extreme new standard in printing productivity and quality.

Unique applications at the center of attention
Agfa Graphics’ booth at Fespa is always a sight to see, but this year, the graphic industry supplier is taking it to the next level.

“We believe that showing the engines themselves is not necessary to exhibit the potential of our printing solutions,” explains Kristof Van Cleemput, Global Communications Manager at Agfa Graphics. “We are confident that our machines can tackle all requests a customer may have, which is why we put a multitude of high-quality, real-life printed applications at the center of attention. They demonstrate the unique potential of our products and will both educate and inspire print service providers that want to make high-impact impressions on their clients. Visitors will be able to see our latest machines, including the brand-new Jeti Tauro H3300 LED, in a virtual operational environment using touchscreens and virtual reality glasses.”

New flagship: the Jeti Tauro H3300 LED
Building on the successes of the Jeti Tauro H2500 LED, Agfa Graphics launches the (even) bigger, sturdier and faster Jeti Tauro H3300 LED – an engine which guarantees both smooth, detailed results and rapid UV LED curing. The Jeti Tauro H3300 LED truly embodies the EXTREME campaign: choosing between quality and productivity is a thing of the past. In addition, it excels at combining award-winning image quality with low ink consumption.

“Those who opt for automation will have fully automated multi-board loading and unloading up to four boards, reducing idle time and increasing production efficiency even more,” explains Reinhilde Alaert, Marketing Product Manager of Sign & Display at Agfa Graphics. “Its extreme speed becomes even more apparent in the roll-to-roll version, which is capable of handling heavy master rolls in single or dual-roll mode for a wide variety of flexible media. With the Jeti Tauro H3300 LED, we can offer the highest possible level of both quality and productivity, thanks to a brand-new vacuum table and Agfa-patented vacuum belt design that keep print media perfectly flat under the print shuttle, guaranteeing precise dot positioning and accurate media transport.”

The Jeti Tauro’s image vividness is created to last, even when subjected to harsh outdoor weather conditions. Due to the high pigment load of Agfa-made inks and Asanti’s ink saving algorithms, ink consumption per square meter is the lowest on the market. The result is an ideal balance between quality, productivity and cost of ownership.

“Among other benefits, LEDs are durable – they generate consistent light output throughout their lifespans of about 10,000 hours,” says Reinhilde Alaert. “Also, the Agfa-developed and manufactured UV-curable inks match perfectly with the spectral emission of Tauro’s LED lamps. This guarantees deep instant curing and delivers dry output, outstanding adhesion on a broad media range, good scratch resistance, perfect color stability, etc.… The fact that the Jeti Tauro H3300 LED relies fully on this technology is truly unique – it’s one of the engine’s many strong suits. Not only that, this hybrid UV inkjet workhorse is capable of producing visually stunning prints on media up to 3.3 m wide at speeds up to 453 m²/h, able to keep going 24/7 and convertible to enable different degrees of automation. It truly is one of a kind.”

Extreme Productivity. Extreme Quality.
Agfa’s printing solutions stand out because of their use of specially-formulated UV LED inks, which are suitable for a wide variety of rigid and flexible substrates. In combination with the company’s Asanti workflow and color management software, these inks produce award-winning prints with the largest color gamut and superior adhesion and durability.

In addition, Agfa Graphics’ patented Thin Ink Layer technology guarantees the lowest ink consumption per square meter on the market, thanks to the inks’ high pigment load, and the unique color management capabilities of Asanti.

This supreme level of quality, combined with the stellar productivity that results from a combination of high-speed printing with a range of automation options, is at the core of Agfa Graphics’ EXTREME campaign, which is reflected in its slogan: ‘Extreme Productivity. Extreme Quality.’ All of these benefits are embodied by Agfa’s latest pride and joy, the Jeti Tauro H3300 LED.

Fespa Global Print Expo is Europe’s largest exhibition for the wide-format print industry. It takes place in Berlin from 15 to 18 May this year. Agfa Graphics exhibits in hall 1.1, at stand A57.

Koninklijke BDU de Holanda es un periódico altamente eficiente que valora el Sistema tecnológico de empaque de Ferag

Koninklijke BDU group based in Barneveld (the Netherlands) is one of the country’s most successful producers of local newspapers, with acquisitions and contract orders driving strong portfolio growth over the past couple of years. New Ferag technology in the mailroom is processing the growth in volume smoothly and efficiently.

Koninklijke BDU Uitgevers B.V. publishes Barneveldse Krant, the Netherlands’ smallest independent local daily newspaper, along with around 30 more weekly local freesheets and other periodicals. For outside customers, BDU Media handles advertising acquisition and end-to-end production of their titles. Koninklijke BDU Grafisch Bedrijf B.V. is an affiliate company that prints a total of 160 magazines, as well as newspaper editions for outside customers including Reformatorisch Dagblad with a circulation of 60,000. BDU Print thus has its finger directly on the pulse of the market and knows exactly the offering required to attract demand as a print service provider. This knowledge is paying off.

Another decision in favour of Ferag
Back in 2013, Koninklijke BDU Grafisch Bedrijf expanded its coldset printing plant with a highly flexible KBA Commander CT that would create capability for future extension of the product portfolio (see Info Box “A question of format”). The Commander CT delivers its print output to a Ferag mailroom that was newly installed at the time.

Extremely positive experience subsequently with the TPC (TopPerformanceClamp) conveyor chain and three MultiStack compensating stackers with SmartStrap strapping in operation there prompted Koninklijke BDU Grafisch Bedrijf to invest in Ferag technology yet again: in the summer of 2016, Ferag sales partner Veer Motion Solutions installed a TPC downstream of the older Manroland Regioman as well. Joined by two further MultiStack compensating stackers and the PKT bundle evacuation line, the TPC superseded equipment from another manufacturer that was getting on in years.

Processing at full press speed
The direct catalyst for placing this new order with Ferag was the acquisition of larger contracts from newspaper publishers in the Benelux region, with the resulting need for more efficient bundling and distribution. The Regioman line prints up to 60,000 newspaper copies per hour in tabloid format and can now be evacuated at full production speed with two copies in each TPC clamp. From there the newspapers are packaged into neat, plastic film-wrapped bundles.

With the second printing and processing line now also able to reliably handle demanding production jobs involving numerous small bundles, BDU was last year in position to add to its own 30 local newspapers by acquiring 47 more newspaper titles hitherto published by Telegraf Media Groep. This means extremely good utilization of capacity at Koninklijke BDU Grafisch Bedrijf, which has become a showcase model for successful focus on end-to-end production of weekly local newspapers.

“Neatly formed bundles”
In any case, plant manager Hans Daniels is full of praise for the new mailroom technology’s efficiency and the product quality it turns out: “We really like what we have been seeing from Ferag systems since 2013,” he says. They have worked “quietly and reliably”, resulting in “neatly formed bundles and tidily stacked pallets”.

A question of format
The Netherlands is the place to appreciate the pace and extent of change in printed daily newspapers. Newspaper and magazine printing company BDU Print in Barneveld invested in new production technology in 2013 because management saw the future of newspapers not least as a question of format. The new press was configured from the outset for half-size maximum format (“tabloid”, 289 × 415 mm). Half-tabloid products (207 × 289 mm) are what BDU Print calls “magazines”, while the corresponding quarter-format with tabs (final format 144 × 207 mm but configured as half-format in the machine) is fittingly called “BDU tablet” on account of its size: about the same as an iPad tablet screen. BDU Print can glue tabloid formats lengthwise, which makes possible the two-page jump. A section stitcher in turn enables inline stitched “magazine” formats. Two different product types (tabloid together with magazine or tablet) can be produced and delivered at once in a single print run.

About BDU
Koninklijke Barneveldse Drukkerij en Uitgeverij had its “royal” status bestowed in 1996. The company has been in existence for more than 146 years, with a majority of shares in family hands and 25 percent held by staff. Efficient workflow and rapid set-up times are important success factors, given the large volume of short-run newspaper and magazine production. The location between Utrecht, Apeldoorn and Arnhem provides ready access to anywhere in the Netherlands.

Fujifilm lanza la Ultra High Quality Plataform para formato super ancho en FESPA 2018

The new Acuity Ultra is a high quality, cost-effective, super-wide UV platform for the production of high-end interior graphics and outdoor signage.

Fujifilm today announces the European launch of a new super-wide format platform called the Acuity Ultra, with its first showcase being on Fujifilm stand D50, Hall 2.2 at the FESPA Global Print Expo 2018 in Berlin in May. Representing the culmination of extensive market research to understand the needs of super-wide format producers today and the challenges they will face tomorrow, this latest addition to the Fujifilm Acuity range is unlike anything currently available on the market. It forms a key part of Fujifilm's industrial strategy, offering increased size and quality to make the production of high-end interior graphics much more profitable. Built around Fujifilm's UV cured inkjet technologies, it offers almost photographic levels of quality with tighter registration and higher production speeds, at a cost that is set to shake up the super-wide format marketplace.

Available in 5 metre and 3.2 metre models, the Acuity Ultra is available with up to eight colour channels, using a new, high-quality, low film weight Uvijet GS Fujifilm ink. GREENGUARD approved, this ink has been especially designed to deliver the highest quality and is fully emission-compliant for interior graphic display work.

With a 3pl drop size ensuring the highest possible quality, the Acuity Ultra is ideal for the high-end indoor display market, especially for luxury brands, with the quality comparable with litho and leading water-based ink systems. Based around conventional UV technology, it also runs at much higher speeds than LED cured machines, but as the vacuum table is efficiently water-cooled, there is not an excessive build-up of heat on the print plate, meaning no shrinkage.

With a throughput of up to 236m2 per hour, the machine is capable of printing on three rolls simultaneously, as well as printing super-wide format graphics up to five metres in width. In addition, linear motors ensure smooth edge-to-edge printing with no vibrations at the end of the run.

Says Kevin Rhodes, Marketing Applications Manager, Fujifilm Speciality Ink Systems: "The Fujifilm Acuity series has long been known for its quality and reliability and, by adding this super-wide model to the range, we are now also offering customers a big step-up in quality and productivity. With the extra width, the option to print on three rolls simultaneously and the ability to print at high speeds with no compromise on quality, the Acuity Ultra will appeal to larger businesses and major luxury brands, helping them to boost production levels and profitability in this highly-competitive sector."

A number of beta sites are already operational in the UK and Spain. To see the new machine, visit the Fujifilm stand (2.2, D50) at FESPA Global Print Expo 2018.
