Agfa Graphicslanza “eXPERTServices” para diarios
Quality Control from prepress to press, customized training programs, consultancy and fine-tuning of the CtP system ensures newspaper operations are running as efficiently as possible.
Newspaper publishers have their share of things to be worried about but Agfa Graphics believes their prepress department should not have to be one of them. Agfa Graphics today launched “eXPERT Services,” a new series of programs such as ISO based quality control procedures, training, consultancy and system integration specifically-designed to ensure newspaper printers that their organizational needs are being met and that everything from CtP to press is running as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
“For Agfa Graphics, offering our customers professional service and support has always been key to doing business. This requires a combination of ‘top performing’ prepress equipment, software and people with the right competencies,” said EmielSweevers, Agfa Graphics.
“The ‘eXPERT Services’ program is designed to improve and control the output quality, streamline production and increase productivity.”
The “eXPERT Services” program is built around four primary objectives: IQA (ISO Quality Assist), CtP Advanced Set-up & Integration, Consultancy and Training. Each segment of the program is designed to ensure newspaper publishers are getting the most from their prepress and press investment.
At the core of the new “eXPERT Services” are the IQA (ISO Quality Assist) programs. “IQA” uses well-defined industry standards and procedures to ensure reproducible quality from prepress to press to conform to ISO 12647-3.
“CtP Advanced Set-up & Integration” takes care of CtP engine settings and system integration, going beyond the standard engine installation. This improves the ease-of-use and efficiency of complete CtP systems.
The Agfa Academy training programs help newspaper publishers maximize their competencies and skills.
With “Consultancy,” the program offers detailed analytical advice regarding, for example, applicable helpful technologies beyond prepress and the task of initiating color management and ink savings solutions.
“Agfa eXPERT Services” is being offered to European customers beginning at WAN-IFRA’s World Publishing Expo 2014 in October and will be offered to the rest of the world beginning in 2015.

Kodak planea expandir su plataforma NexPress el 2015
Kodak has enhanced the Kodak NexPress Digital Production Colour Press Platform to expand its capabilities and provide printers with new options for meeting their customers’ requirements. These configuration changes will become standard on all presses built in 2015 and will be available as optional or standard upgrades on the majority of installed Kodak NexPress presses.
The new configurations of the Kodak NexPress presses will include the expansion of long sheet capability, the addition of Dura Coat Mode and the inclusion of Kodak NexPress Light Black HD Dry Ink in the Fifth Imaging Unit. An automated imaging cylinder cleaning system will also be added.
‘The latest improvements to the Kodak NexPress Presses are examples of Kodak’s commitment to providing many years of post-purchase value,’ said Doug Edwards, president, Digital Printing & Enterprise, Eastman Kodak Company. ‘The popularity of the Kodak NexPress Presses stems from their reputation as purchases that keep giving, a fact that is not lost on business owners in a competitive marketplace.’
Kodak NexPress Digital Production Colour Press Platform Enhancements
One Metre Sheet Length: The current long sheet capability of 36 inches will be expanded to support sheets up to 1 metre (39.37-inches) in length, with the incorporation of the optional Long Sheet Feeder. Initial key applications include point-of-sale signage, gate-folded marketing materials and extended size dust jackets for books. Presses currently installed with a Long Sheet Feeder can be upgraded in field to support the 1 metre sheet length. The currently available Long Sheet Delivery Unit already supports the one metre length sheets.
Dura Coat Mode: A Kodak NexPress press configured with a Clear Dry Ink Fifth Station already provides a robust set of capabilities for coating and specialty finishes. Dura Coat Mode is the latest addition, using Kodak NexPress Clear Dry Ink to deliver a clear thin matte layer over only the locations on the sheet that have CMYK ink, based on automated image processing performed on the Kodak NexPress Digital Front End. This economically protects the underlying ink in mailing applications and uses less clear ink than other forms of flood coating. It also produces a unique finish that can be used to further differentiate the design of the job. Dura Coat Mode is available on presses configured with System 15.1 software.
Standard Light Black HD Dry Ink Station: All new Kodak NexPress presses in 2015 will be configured with a Light Black HD Dry Ink Station as a standard in the Kodak NexPress Fifth Imaging Unit Solution. The addition of Light Black HD Dry Ink in the Fifth Imaging Unit provides outstanding image quality across a wide variety of applications while extending the yields of key consumables on the press. It also typically reduces the amount of CMYK ink used on the sheet.
Automated Imaging Cylinder Cleaning System: A new cleaning system designed to reduce operator maintenance and increase imaging cylinder life will automatically clean the imaging cylinders on a periodic basis. This system will be standard on all presses using HD Inks and optional for presses using non-HD Inks.
These new enhancements were demonstrated at Kodak’s stand at Graph Expo, in addition to the functionality introduced in 2013 and 2014; Namely Smart RGB, Ink Optimisation, Economy Mode, Long Sheet Delivery Unit, CP BOURG SHEET FEEDER Cart, Kodak NexPress VII Front End (High Performance with System 15.1) and Kodak NexPress Gold Dry I
KBA y Tensor firman acuerdo de venta conjunta para varios países
KBA and Tensor pick countries for sales agreement
KBA will promote both TPH and Tensor single-width presses following a new German-American alliance.
German press giant KBA – which is focused on double and triple-wide newspaper and heatset equipment – has announced it will share distribution of single-width newspaper web presses with AH Tensor International WHICH IS based in Woodridge, Illinois.
An “appropriate frame” agreement has been signed by KBA executive vice-president Christoph Müller and MattiasAndersson, who is chief executive of Tensor International and of its parent DCOS Sweden. KBA will distribute single-width presses from Tensor in selected countries on a commission basis along with its own high-end presses via its global sales network. The agreement replicates that signed between Tensor and KBA North America for the USA and Canada and announced at GraphExpo.
The parties say further countries are expected to follow soon.
In a joint announcement, KBA and Tensor say the deal takes into account the smaller global market volume for newspaper printing technology. “In the current industry environment such alliances between manufacturers whose products address various segments within the newspaper market make sense with respect to costs,” it says.
“KBA accommodates high and very high demands in terms of productivity, automation and ease of operation with its double and triple-width presses. In contrast the presses from Tensor are engineered in terms of their equipment and output predominantly for heavily budget-oriented smaller newspaper houses.”
The current agreement with Tensor International does not terminate the previous strategic alliance agreed in September 2009 between KBA and The Printers House (TPH) in India to promote single-width one-around Orient web presses in other markets.
Agfa inicia celebración de los 10 años de AZURA en Japón
Agfa Graphics Japan (Tokyo) and Daicolo Co., Ltd. (Osaka) recently announced that Daicolo's cumulative use of Agfa Graphics' Azura chemistry-free CTP plates has exceeded one million sq/m. The announcement was followed by a celebration, signaling the launch of Agfa Graphics' ‘Ten Years of Azura’ campaign.
President Matsuishi of Agfa Graphics
(right) presented President Kagota of Daicolo with a gift as token of recognition.
First introduced in 2004, Agfa Graphics' chemistry-free CTP plate Azura is the most used chemistry-free printing plate in the world. In Japan, known for its high quality demands, it quickly achieved a 90 per cent market share.
Daicolo, a commercial printing company specialized in school photo albums is the world's No.1 Azura user. They have installed twelve CTP units in total since their first use of Azura in July 2006, and are the first company in the world to achieve a 1 million sq/m total of Azura use.
At the joint press conference, which was held at Daicolo's premises, President Matsuishi of Agfa Graphics, Japan thanked Daicolo for its confidence and loyalty.
Chairman and executive director Kagota of Daicolo said, ‘We have always been keen on incorporating new technologies since the company was founded in 1953 and we attach great value to efficiency and high quality. The photo album market has been in a tough situation due to the declining birth rate, which means that we had to find new clients in order to maintain or increase sales. In such a situation, we believed that environmentally-friendly solutions were essential, and we started to make environmentally-friendly graduation photo albums. This allowed us to comply with various environmental requirements and receive 200 to 300 new orders every year. Additionally, the efficiency and reduced workload of the chemistry-free Azura plates were vital during the busiest times when our CTP units operate 24 hours a day.’
He added, ‘I am very happy that we were the first to achieve 1 million m2 cumulative use of Azura. I am looking forward to Agfa Graphics' continuing support and further product developments.’
Ten Years of Azura
2014 marks the 10th anniversary of the release of Azura. To celebrate this anniversary, Agfa Graphics plans to put twelve Azura users from all over the world in the spotlight over the coming twelve months, ending at the IGAS trade show in Japan in Tokyo 2015.
